How I’m trying to just B more

I’ve had this idea rolling around in my head for a while. A few decades actually. (Now doesn’t that make me sound old? Well, guess what? I am, and I’m proud of it!) Over the years I’ve spent writing here, I have alluded to this idea, hinted at what I’m thinking and doing.

Today I’m going to let you know where this website is going, and I along with it. If you ask me why I feel the need to tell you this, all I can say is that it just feels like something I need to share. Plus, I want those of you who are reading and following along to know what you can expect as I move forward.

I’ve mentioned in the past that I want this to be a place to focus both on my writing career and building community. Both of these are true to the core of what I want with just B more as a website. I think it is important for you to understand why.

As an individual, I have a goal of being a professional, paid, published writer. My life is littered with creative projects from childhood journals to canvases splattered with paint. I have always had the need to create either with words or pictures, and I always treated it as a hobby. But the truth is that creating something for others to read or see is at the core of who I am. As I continue on the next part of my life, I need to start putting energy into this part of me, and this is the best place to start.

As a collective, I feel community is something everyone truly needs. In this time of quarantine and constant change, I think it’s more important than ever. It’s important for people to find their tribe, be it in person or online. Having multiple communities allows you not only to have a larger support system but to explore other interests and parts of yourself. It may sound stupid, but it’s true.

So if you’ve read this far, you might be asking, “What is this community going to focus on?”

The answer is simple: local, environmentally purposeful living, with art and travel as guilty pleasures.

Confused?

Well, if you’ve followed along here at just B more or on my Instagram for any length of time, you’ll notice I love my Baltimore artists, local businesses, Mr. Trash Wheel and travel. Sure, there are posts about dogs, books and Sex and the City thrown in, but that’s because, you know, I’m a person with more than three things I enjoy out of life. But when it comes to the things that really matter to me, it’s art, supporting local, keeping the Earth a healthy place to live and traveling to see that same planet.

What this means for the site it that a lot of the content will be the same, but there will be more of it. There will still be profiles of my favorite makers and artists, Mr. Trash Wheel will still be worshiped and I’ll still let you know about fun festivals and events. In addition, you will also find more personal essays (featured here on Sundays), tips on how to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle (no matter where you live) and ideas on how and where to travel (both in Maryland and beyond). Eventually, everything will have its day, and newsletters will be available for you to subscribe to the content that most interests you.

There’s even more in store for this site, myself and you, the just B more community. I hope you will stay along for the ride.
